Kanye’s Rep Releases Statement On Botched Billboard Awards Performance

Kanye West closed out the show at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday, but unfortunately for fans of the SWISH rapper – we could barely hear OR see anything that he did!

A trigger-happy censor left for moments as long as 15 seconds at times of pure silence during Ye’s performance of his current single “All Day,” while the pyrotechnics he’d opted for ended up drowning out the stage, leaving him barely visible amongst the flames for a majority of the performance.

BBMA execs were first to respond, pointing the finger at Kanye for not showing up to the final rehearsal, making the point that it then left them in the dark about what he’d be doing.

Now Ye’s reps have shot back, and as one could imagine – they’re not happy.

“Kanye West was grossly over-censored at the Billboard Music Awards,” his rep said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “Non-profane lyrics such as ‘with my leather black jeans on’ were muted for over 30-second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented. It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against.

“Although West was clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast, he would like to apologize to the television audience who were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned.”

TMZ also reports that sources close to Ye were pissed because “he gave producers a specific note about changing lighting and camera angles. We’re told Yeezy’s a perfectionist when it comes to his final product, and feels like they screwed him.”

If you missed it, check out the performance here.
