He may have tweeted a
half-hearted apology this morning, but we bet Rick Ross really regrets his insensitive rap lyrics now.
Last March, Ross signed an endorsement deal with Reebok, now just barely a year later a petition has been signed asking the mega-retailer to drop the rapper.
More than 100 members from women’s groups, UltraViolet and NOW NYC, crashed Reebok’s flagship store in New York City and delivered 72,000 signatures asking the sneaker giant to “Drop Rick Ross!”
“It’s time for Reebok to stop using their brand as a platform to promote rape and the idea that rape is not just okay, but cool. Contrary to Ross’ claims, there was no misinterpretation here: Slipping a woman a drug and ‘enjoying that’ is rape, plain and simple.” said Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet. “It’s time for Reebok to answer the 72,000 customers who want them to stop promoting violence against women and fire Rick Ross.”
In case you missed it, Ricky Rozay raps “Put Molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it, I took her home and I enjoyed that. She ain’t even know it” in the song “U.N.E.N.O.”.
HipHollywood reached out to Reebok and they told us they have “no comment” at this time. UltraViolet says they will “announce further escalation of the campaign Monday if the company continues to use their brand to promote rape.”
